Shadow Harp
Interactive installation in The Old Church (de Oude Kerk) in Amsterdam as part of the Tropistic Manifestation 'The Mystery in the Old Church' in 1994.
By means of mirrors, a powerfull blue laser drew a web of light rays just above the ground. The beams ended at the 16 columns of the church and where reflected upwards to speakers. When a ray was interrupted, a single channel of a 16 track music composition was triggered.
So one could walk trough the grid of beams, perhaps unaware of triggering and the consequences. Other spectators played it quite aware as a giant light-beams kind of string instrument. Hence the name; Shadow Harp.
The 16 track music composition was made by Bob van Walderveen (†) and Alfred Marseille, I did the laser grid and we were assisted by our technician Sam Samshuizen (†). This picture is all that remains.
